The Atomic Scaling action plan
“It doesn’t matter if I failed. At least I passed the concept on to others. Even if I don’t succeed, someone will succeed.”
You have the full blueprint for beginning your journey of Atomic Scaling. Right now you have a chance to be an early adopter of this paradigm shift and create a positive future for more people — whether you are working on your next startup, leading a large company, or heading up a government or nonprofit organization. Acquire these superpowers and you will outperform those who don’t.
Below are the 28 action steps for acquiring them, pillar by pillar, exactly as they close the book.
Remember the 3P3R framework

- Playbook: Create a finite game and play to win.
- Reach: Serve the largest total addressable market you can.
- Retention: Retention is more important than reach or revenue.
- Revenue: Offer your basic service for free.

Game on: Revenue
Start with purpose.
Remind yourself of your mission and why you are creating this revenue model in the first place.
Get tons of free users.
What service or product would appeal to the largest number of your users so you can have a big total addressable market?
Get users to stick around.
- Does your product or service solve a one-time problem, or a recurring problem? If it solves a one-time problem, is there a recurring problem you could solve for your ideal users?
- How can you solve your ideal users’ recurring problem on a daily or weekly basis?

Keep cost per user low.
How might you lower your cost per unit, using a dynamic definition of cost?
Get the skills to create the product or service.
What skills do you need to automate, develop, or hire for?

- Are you measuring to know when customer lifetime value is greater than customer acquisition cost (LTV > CAC)? When LTV > CAC, it’s time to scale.
Take the assessment
Not sure which pillar to start with?
For some of you these action steps are all you need — you already know which of the 3Ps and 3Rs to work on and where to begin. If instead you are thinking I need to work on all of them, start with the free assessment: it tells you what kind of high-performance leader you are, names your strengths and your constraints, and shows you where your Atomic Scaling journey starts.
Create your custom plan
Turn the steps into a rhythm
Return to the action steps above and mark the ones you have completed and the ones you haven’t. Everything unfinished goes on your business growth to-do list; the reflection questions guide how you complete each step for your own business.
As a high-performance leader you should have time blocked every week to work on the growth of your business. If you don’t, scheduling it is the first item on the list. Then set a rhythm of working through these steps in that slot — and you have a custom plan that maximises your strengths, minimises your constraints, and keeps the most important work in front of you.
