🚀 3.2.1. OPC or HAAO ::: Atomic Scaling

Mar 26, 2026

China is paying people to go solo. Idle data centers, free apartments, subsidized compute — the full bureaucratic engine, deployed to birth a thousand One-Person AI Companies (OPC). But I think there is a higher-order play (HAAO). My takes on both.

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I. OPC — the new UBI, Chinese edition.

China invented a third path beyond UBI (Universal Basic Income) and UHI (Universal High Income): the One-Person Company, state-subsidized and AI-native. One human above a full agent stack — not a freelancer, a board of one.

Interface layer — you, the Human:

  • Capital allocator · System designer · Final decision layer

Agent layer — execution:

  • AISales→AI SDRs · outbound · pipeline
  • Product→AI builders · Lovable · iteration loops
  • Ops→AI workflows · automation
  • Support→AI chat agents · resolution at scale
  • Finance→AI copilots · reporting · forecasting

Same Zhejiang province running China's UBI pilots is now the OPC hotspot. Different acronym, same thesis: the job is ending. The income unit survives.

II. Your OPC is a product — not a job.

The most interesting thing about OPC is not the person running it — it is that the OPC itself can become a tradable asset.

Ben Broca built Polsia on exactly this idea: a marketplace where you buy and sell one-person companies the way you buy a Shopify store. His own proof of concept — $0 to $6.2M ARR in five weeks, one founder, zero employees — ships with the pitch. The mechanics are simple: you build the OPC, AI runs the business, and when you want out, you transfer your API key in escrow to the next owner. No lawyers. No cap table. No audited EBITDA. Access, agents, and cash flows — that is the whole deal.

III. HAAO > OPC.

OPC (Solo):

You + bots. Full autonomy. Extremely draining. Hard ceiling on complexity.

vs

HAAO (Team × Agents):

Agents as default operators. Humans for JTO (Judgment, Taste & Override). No ceiling.

For anyone who's been there, running solo is extremely draining. AI can be a force multiplier. It can be a co-founder in function. But it cannot replicate the thing that actually makes early companies survive — the energy transfer between two humans who are genuinely locked in together.

HAAO — Human-Assisted Autonomous Organization — is the model I bet on. Agents are the default operators. Humans step in for the things agents still cannot do: taste, ethics, relationships, pivots, and the big bets that require skin in the game.

Maybe once AGI is fully reached — and one has to ask, have we already reached it and are we simply hiding it to justify high-compute pricing and hook players into the infrastructure race? — maybe then OPC truly becomes the universal architecture. But right now, HAAO is the superior design for anyone building something that needs to outlast a product cycle.

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS:

I.

"OPC or mega-corporation in which each human will be amplified by 100× robots — both exciting, and yet to be built." The open question every founder is now quietly solving for

II.

"How did we spend thirty years building organizations that make extraordinary people look ordinary? And now that AI lets those people route around us entirely — what exactly is our plan?" — Nate Jones, Former Head of Product at Amazon Prime Video

1 ACTION FOR YOU:

OPC or HAAO? Draw your org chart. Mark every node human or agent. One human + twenty agents = OPC. Two humans + a hundred agents = HAAO. That map is your blueprint. Agents as infrastructure. Humans as strategy.

P.S. On the path to HAAO — Gary Tan, President at Y Combinator, open-sourced Gstack, built on top of Anthropic Claude. 46,900+ GitHub stars in three weeks. It is designed to help CEOs and teams ship better code. I built my own version: Atomic Scaling OS — same spirit, different focus.

Where Gstack is about coding products better, Atomic Scaling OS is about working together better and marketing products harder. I am looking for beta testers and contributors. Ping me if you want to test it or contribute — I will open-source it on GitHub too.
