🚀 3.2.1. To go Viral ::: Atomic Scaling

Jul 24, 2026

How do you get people to notice what you're building?

Founders keep asking this question—and for good reason. Funding is more competitive than ever. AI has made content abundant, which makes attention scarce.

Most people respond by chasing tactics. The more durable advantage comes from understanding psychology and mastering language.

THREE IDEAS

I. Sharing is a trade, and status is the currency.

You're not writing for your reader.

You're writing for your reader's audience.

Every viral piece is a status gift to the person who shares it: the insight is yours, but the social credit is theirs. Make the gift valuable, and make it effortless to pass along.

II. Language is the growth engine, not the packaging.

Channels evolve. Psychology and language don't.

The difference between "access an online rideshare marketplace" and "get a ride in 3 minutes" is the difference between a product and a movement.

Give people the exact phrase to repeat—short, memorable, and about them, not you. If they have to rewrite your message, it degrades like a photocopy. Compression beats frequency. One sentence people repeat is worth more than fifty posts they forget.

III. Engineer the motivation, don't chase the algorithm.

We've identified eight sharing motivations: status, identity, helpfulness, safety, order, novelty, validation, and voyeurism.

Most founders bet everything on novelty—the weakest and shortest-lived trigger.

The best companies anchor themselves in one or two deeper motivations and build both their product and messaging around them.

  • Notion → order
  • Nextdoor → safety
  • Airbnb → helpfulness

Which motivation is structurally yours?

The answer will outlast every algorithm change.

TWO QUOTES:

I.

"The foundation of viral growth is rooted in motivational psychology and language. The growth channels change, but this stays the same."  James Currier, Partner at NFX

II.

“Marketing is no longer about the stuff that you make, but about the stories you tell.” — Seth Godin

ONE ACTION FOR YOU:

Ask yourself: When someone shares my product, what does that say about them?

If you can't answer that in one sentence, no marketing tactic will consistently work. Fix that first.

Until next week. Scale atomically.
