🚀 3.2.1. Prophecy to Prediction ::: Atomic Scaling
Aug 22, 2025
In my last four newsletters, I’ve unpacked The Big Shift — three macro forces shaping the next 10–15 years: AI, Climate, and Civilization. These aren’t “predictions” in the business sense. They’re prophecies — my view on three unstoppable trends we can’t control individually — but can learn to ride like waves.
In my Atomic Scaling 3P3R Framework, I draw a clear line between Prediction (what you can measure and act upon) and Prophecy (what you foresee and use to guide your thinking).
3 IDEAS FROM ME:
I. PvP: Prediction vs Prophecy
Let’s clarify. Think of an entrepreneur’s mind is like windshield wipers — moving between left brain and right brain, data and story, back and forth..
Prediction lives in the left brain. It’s about testing hypotheses, tracking key metrics, and making calls backed by hard data. It’s analytical, logical, measurable — cause and effect.
Prophecy lives in the right brain. It’s about sensing where the world is heading and telling the story in a way that inspires belief, mobilization, and alignment. It’s less about measurement, more about vision. Sometimes, yes — it’s preaching.
Both are essential.
II. Why Prophecies matter
Stoic philosopher Epictetus reminded us: focus on what’s within your control and let go of what’s not. Day to day, I don’t stress over prophecies — they’re beyond my control.
But here’s the paradox:
Prophecies do matter, because they shape the most important decision you make as an entrepreneur — where you spend your time.
Like a surfer, you can’t fight the current. You ride it. Your prophecy helps you choose your playground — the right wave at the right time. Once you’ve chosen that arena, your predictions help you win inside it with the tools you can control: scorecards, reviews, and systems.
The rule is simple:
• Use prophecy to choose the game.
• Use prediction to win it.
III. From Observer to Participant: Builder Mode On
The next decade could look doomed: accelerating AI, climate pressure, political instability — three storms colliding.
I choose to see what comes after the storm: the clearing. As a techno-optimist, I believe human ingenuity will find solutions. We’ll enter a new era of abundance.
In shifts this big, we need both spectators and builders. No moral hierarchy — just more hands on deck.
The next chapter isn’t fate — it’s ours to build. Play like a founder. Think like a citizen. Move like a node. Build arches, not islands or bunkers. Help people cross the chasm — and enjoy the ride.
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS:
I.
“In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job. There will be universal high income. There’ll be no shortage of goods or services.” — Elon Musk, Founder of SpaceX
II.
“It’s great to send 1 million people to Mars, but we have to care about the 7.4 billion on Earth.” — Jack Ma, Founder of Alibaba
1 ACTION FOR YOU:
It’s all about the playbook. Ask yourself:
- Which prophecies are you or your industry betting on?
- What role do you want to play in building the new world?
- How can you build it better — with cleaner code?
Whatever story you’re running, remember: life’s short. Optimize for impact, but don’t forget to have fun shipping.
