🚀 3.2.1. Happy Moon Festival

I came back from Dubai last night, with the impression of a quietly confident and resilient UAE.

As President of China visits the United States for his first state visit in more than a decade, I thought I would take a small detour this week. Away from AI and entrepreneurship, and towards the world we live in, and how we find our place in it.

For that, I’m turning to a poem written in 1076, during China’s Song dynasty.

On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Su Shi was thinking of his brother, far away. His poem, Prelude to Water Melody, reflects on separation, the imperfections of life, and the comfort of sharing the same moon, even across great distances.

Nearly a thousand years later, that thought still feels close to home.

Happy Moon Festival, wherever you are. Here are a few words to carry into the week:

I. There are joys and sorrows,
the encounters and the separations;

II. The moon, too, grows and wanes,
It becomes full, then fades away.
Nothing in this world is ever completely whole.

and - at a distance of a thousand leagues from one another -
remain under the same moon.
