Elon Musk calls it "abundance": his best-case picture of where AI and robots take us. Here it is in 3 ideas, 2 quotes and 1 action.
THREE IDEAS:
I. AI and robots will make everything.
Elon's narrative is that AI and humanoid robots like Optimus or Unitree will turn out goods and services almost without limit. At Davos in January 2026 he said: "With robotics and AI, this is really the path to abundance for all." He also argues that output will grow faster than the money supply, so prices won't rise.
II. Universal High Income, not Universal Basic Income.
He doesn't mean a minimum safety net. He means plenty for everyone. He has said there will be no poverty, so people won't need to save. He has also said money "will stop being relevant," pointing to Iain M. Banks' Culture novels, where money doesn't exist.
III. Work becomes a choice, like a hobby.
You would work for the same reasons you play a sport or grow a garden: because you enjoy it. He puts this 10 to 20 years away. In May 2024 he said there was an 80% chance AI gets us there.
